Norand Licenses CIC’S Handwriter Recognition Software
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — October 31, 1994 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (NASDAQ/CICIQ) (CIC) announced signing a worldwide license agreement with Norand Corp. (NASDAQ/NRND) for CIC's Handwriter Recognition System.
Norand is a leading worldwide supplier of industrial Handheld Wireless Mobile Data Communications Systems.
Based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Norand's current annual revenue is approximately $200 million and it employs about 900 people worldwide.
"Handwriting recognition is the linchpin between users and pen computing devices.
Poor handwriting recognition has disapppointed users and killed many pen computing products during the past two years.
We are pleased to add Norand to our growing number of OEM licensees that are committed to delivering the highest quality pen computing products to the market.
CIC's consumer proven Handwriter Recognition System will contribute to Norand's mission to excel in the rapidly expanding wireless mobile data communications market," said James Dao, CIC's president and chief executive officer.
Norand will initially use CIC's Handwriter Recognition System 4.0 software on their new PEN/KEY (TM) 6300.
This rugged and powerful handheld data communications device offers an array of data entry options, including writing directly into the application with a pen.
"When users need to enter handwritten text the quality of the recognizer is critical.
We are very impressed with CIC's technology and direction as it relates to the mobile computing industry," said Tom Miller, Norand's vice president, Mobile Systems Division.
