Nortel and Communication Intelligence Corporation Announce Joint Development to Define Next Generation Wireless Communications Standards and Products

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — April 28, 1997 — The joint development will be applied to communications products which are expected to be announced in 1997.

Under this collaboration, Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC) and Nortel will work to develop communication protocols and to integrate key pen input technologies for handwriting recognition and electronic ink data processing. The resulting capabilities are expected to enhance wireless communications to improve ease of use and to increase the functionality of wireless services. It is anticipated that this joint effort will create new open standards which will help the wireless communications industry to grow.

Key features are expected to allow users to communicate with voice as well as electronic ink messaging. New solutions to address security requirements will also be pursued to facilitate discretionary communications and electronic commerce."Wireless networks such as GSM and PCS provide a robust platform for more powerful wireless communications. The collaboration of CIC with Nortel, a world leader in telecommunications, will seek to create new solutions to help the wireless telecommunications market expand by delivering new and compelling services to their customers," said Jeff Dao, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at CIC."
