Novatel Wireless Announces Partnership With GoAmerica for CONTACT Wireless HPC Device
PHOENIX, Ariz. — July 28, 1997 — GoAmerica's wireless Internet and Intranet services to be made available to CONTACT users
Novatel Wireless, Inc., a wireless communications solutions provider, has formed an alliance with GoAmerica Communications Corp., the nation's leading wireless Internet and Intranet service provider. The alliance was established to introduce GoAmerica's wireless data services to users of Novatel Wireless' soon to be released CONTACT(TM) wireless HPC Windows CE product. This alliance follows the July 7, 1997 announcement from Novatel Wireless regarding the bundling of GoAmerica's wireless services with Novatel Wireless' Minstrel, a wireless Modem for the PalmPilot.
The Novatel Wireless CONTACT is the first hand-held PC integrated with a Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) modem for quick and efficient wireless communications. In addition to the integrated CDPD modem, CONTACT also houses an internal 28.8 wireline modem making it the most versatile data communications device on the market to date. Other features that put the Novatel Wireless CONTACT in a class by itself are a 640 by 240 back-lit screen, lithium ion battery, extended memory, desirable form factor and weight under one pound.
The integrated, wireless-ready solution containing the GoAmerica software allows CONTACT users to extend the power and functionality of this Windows CE-based device by providing real-time access to the World Wide Web, corporate intranets, e-mail and other value-added information services over CDPD.
"The CONTACT from Novatel Wireless is a dynamic new device for mobile professionals, executives, sales forces, and field personnel looking for Windows-based computing and wireless data access in a hand-held device," says Aaron Dobrinsky, president of GoAmerica Communications Corp. "The ability to browse the Internet, access a corporate Intranet and send and receive e-mail through GoAmerica's service positions the CONTACT as a powerful, off-the-shelf wireless computing and communications solution for a wide range of vertical applications."
"Working with GoAmerica, Novatel's CONTACT offers a complete service package for sending and receiving e-mail, Internet browsing and accessing corporate Intranets, among several other services. Users are looking for more innovative, efficient ways to increase productivity and this partnership will satisfy that need," says John Harris, sales and marketing manager of the Phoenix Product Division of Novatel Wireless, Inc.
GoAmerica's comprehensive suite of wireless services enables corporations to cost-effectively and easily outfit their mobile workers — from field personnel to account executives — with access to mission critical data via corporate Intranets and the Internet, while on the go. GoAmerica runs a fully integrated suite of applications that allows its customers to run standard Web Browsers such as Netscape or Microsoft Explorer version 3.0, and wirelessly enable these browsers when they are mobile.
