Options, Risk Management Software Introduced for Atari Portfolio
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — March 12, 1991 — To provide individual investors, portfolio managers and options traders with the ability to instantly price options and view corresponding sensitivities wherever they go, Naiditch Consulting has introduced Micro Hedge(TM), an options and risk management software program for the Atari (AMEX: ATC) Portfolio Palmtop Personal Computer.
Michael Naiditch, a financial options consultant since 1973, said that the new options trading tool provides access to sophisticated scientific modeling and trader insights with a one-pound, 16-bit personal computer which fits easily into a breast pocket, purse or briefcase. "Now traders can analyze individual options and option portfolios at home, in a taxi, in the pit or during a luncheon meeting," he commented.
Fingertip Options Data
"With Micro Hedge and the Portfolio, you can change any input variable (underlying price, volatility, time, interest rate) in a matter of seconds to instantly see the effects these changes have on the options," he continued. The Portfolio/Micro Hedge user simply enters an option position on the typewriter-style keyboard and the software analyzes the entire position's risk so the options trader can make instant decisions and/or recommendations.
Supplied on a credit card-sized RAM card, Micro Hedge incorporates both derivative product pricing and derivative portfolio management. The derivative product pricing allows users to price options, view the corresponding sensitivities, change any input variable, define volatility skew and choose between major option pricing models (Black-Scholes, Whaley, Cox-Ross-Rubinstein, Micro Hedge proprietary).
The derivative portfolio management feature allows the user to enter and save an option position, dissect a position by expiration month or class and apply an all-encompassing "what if" scenario to each portfolio.
Palmtop Computer Power
Naiditch said that he selected the Portfolio palmtop for the Micro Hedge program because people who are dealing in options are seldom seated at a desk where they can use a desktop computer to assist them in their evaluations. "The full-featured, 16-bit handheld Portfolio with 128K of working memory gives these on-the-go traders a competitive edge," he explained. "With Micro Hedge and the Portfolio's built-in applications software, they have everything they need," he added. The Atari Portfolio's built-in software includes a Lotus 1-2-3(R) file-compatible spreadsheet, a full text editor, an address book/appointment diary and an editable tapeless calculator.
Priced at only $299.95, the Portfolio has serial or parallel port options so information can be uploaded/downloaded from almost any computer system. With the options, information can also be printed out or sent by modem across town or across the country. The Micro Hedge software program card is priced at $1,900.
