Oracle Announces Sales Automation Applications for the Palm Computing Platform

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — September 9, 1998 — Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced enhancements to the mobile version of Oracle Sales and Marketing (OSM) that enables sales reps to access their sales information on a Palm Computing(R) Connected Organizer. This expanded sales automation offering for the mobile user brings remote computing one step further by giving sales reps the convenience and flexibility of sharing and managing information with a Palm(TM) device while on the road. Oracle Sales and Marketing is part of the Oracle Front Office Applications suite, the industry's first front office suite that is fully integrated with an ERP solution, Oracle Enterprise Applications.

With the initial release of this Mobile OSM enhancement, sales reps can now manage information for their accounts, contacts, opportunities and activities between Mobile OSM and any Palm device, such as the PalmPilot(TM) and Palm III(TM), devices from Symbol Technologies and the IBM WorkPad PC Companion. Using PUMA Technology's Intellisync software, Oracle has enabled Mobile OSM information to be shared directly with native Palm applications (Address and To Do List). This integration allows sales reps to access and transfer their remote sales data with one touch of a button.

Oracle's next release for Mobile OSM will include a native field sales Palm application and a direct link to enterprise sales compensation and service information. This native application will enhance the current product offering by introducing access to sales forecasts and quotas as well as integration with other front office information. In keeping with Oracle's mobile computing strategy, future releases will support other hand held devices such as the Windows CE.

"With this announcement, sales reps can now have all their critical customer information right in the palm of their hands, available wherever and whenever they need it," said Mark Barrenechea, vice president, Oracle Front Office Applications Division. "Oracle is providing new opportunities for companies to decrease the cost of sales and service while increasing the quality of customer interaction by providing consistent business practices across any channel — the web, call centers and mobile devices."

Oracle Front Office Applications is a complete suite of products for managing all aspects of customer relations, from marketing to sales to service. Oracle is the only vendor that offers seamless integration between front office and back office systems, providing timely access to customer information. The integrated solution provides a 360-degree view of all customer interactions, whether they occur through direct sales contact, customer access over the web, through a call center or indirectly through partner channels.
