Paradigm4 Acquires Avalos Systems Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO — March 3, 1997 — Combined competencies result in first nationwide Wireless Internet/Intranet Service Provider solution

In a move that will serve to advance the use of corporate intranets among mobile workers, Paradigm4, a leading provider and integrator of value-added mobile computing solutions, announced Monday the acquisition of Avalos Systems, Inc., a developer of wireless web software, at the CTIA Wireless '97 Conference held here.

On the heels of this business announcement, Paradigm4 will release its GlobeRunner(TM) Wireless Connectivity Pak, the first nationwide Wireless Internet/Intranet Service Provider (WISP) service offering for the Microsof Windows CE(R) operating system for handheld PC (H/PC) devices.

"We're excited to incorporate the advanced solutions provided by Avalos Systems, as well as announce the GlobeRunner solution that is a result of our work together," said John Bay, CEO of Paradigm4. "Realizing the potential of H/PCs in the workplace, as well as the continued growth of the wireless computing market, we have bundled a product offering that will provide complete, comprehensive business solutions for mobile workers acros the nation."

Nationwide coverage is made possible through Paradigm4's ADCO(TM) (Advanced Dat Collection Outsourcing) service bureau, a core service offering which allow customers to outsource the wireless network infrastructure support, and receive value-added applications, network security, and a 24-hour support center to facilitate remote diagnostics and customer service.

Paradigm4's pricing structure is unique in that customers are assessed a monthly servic fee by user, rather than requiring a capital investment. In the rapidly changing mobile computing environment, Paradigm4's ADCO service provides protection from technology obsolescence by offering automatic upgrades to their clients. Paradigm4's new economic model reduces both the costs and the time to deploy wireless business solutions.

"Becoming part of the Paradigm4 family allows us to expand our offering fro a pure wireless internet solution to corporate wireless and remote access, secure intranet solutions," said Zack Schmidt, president of Avalos Systems Inc.

The GlobeRunner Connectivity Pak is available immediately and includes: GlobeRunner H/PC with radio modem and connectivity software for wireless internet/intranet access; Internet access via wireless ISP; AT&T Wireless service activation; unlimited usage for six months; 24-hour technical assistance via phone; nationwide wireless service access. The package pricing ranges from $ 79 to $ 199 per month.

The decision to support the Microsoft Windows CE platform was critical to the development of the GlobeRunner solution. Paradigm4 said it selected se of its familiar user interface and Microsoft's traditional commitment to quality products.

Microsoft commented on the announcement by saying, "We are pleased to hear that Paradigm4 has acquired Avalos' wireless technologies that support our Microsoft Windows CE operating system for H/PCs. As a developer for the Microsoft Windows CE platform, Avalos has played a key role in the advancement of wireless solutions and we are especially excited about their work in the wireless proxy agent area," said Jon Magill, director of marketing, Microsoft consumer appliances group.

As a result of the Avalos acquisition, Paradigm4 has launched its WISP product and service business unit. The mission of the WISP business unit is to provide remote access solutions for mobile workers.
