PenRight! Announces Price Promotion for PenRight! Pro
FREMONT, Calif. — May 11, 1993 — PenRight! Tuesday announced an aggressive upgrade promotion for the PenRight! Pro software development toolkit.
The price for developers upgrading to PenRight! Pro from other development tools will be $249, discounted from the list price of $795.
"We are instituting price promotions for developers to encourage the creation of more pen applications so more developers will experience the power and features of PenRight! Pro," said Bobbi Burns, director of sales and marketing for PenRight!, the pen-based software unit of GRiD Systems Corp.
Recent reports from industry analysts indicate that PenRight! has captured more than 80 percent of the pen-based software market, with most pen-based computers now in use running PenRight!. In the last year, PenRight! had a unit sales increase of more than 200 percent.
Fujitsu, GRiD, MicroSlate, NCR, Norand, Samsung, and Superscript are currently licensed PenRight! OEMs whose systems have been certified to run applications developed with the PenRight! operating environment.
Independent software vendor (ISV) developers using other development tools such as Visual Basic, Penpoint SDK, PenApps, Visual C++, will receive the discount price if they provide the cover page of their manual with their order.
"Developers who are trying to create vertical applications using the larger, more complex Microsoft Windows or Go PenPoint development tools will really be amazed at how much more quickly their applications can be developed and will run under PenRight!," Burns said.
Applications have been developed in the PenRight! environment for such industries as pharmaceutical, transportation, government, public safety, consumer goods, health care, oil and gas, and utilities. The PenRight! applications were developed to meet customer needs in performing such vertical tasks as data collection, inspections, route accounting, inventory control, shipping and receiving, sales force automation and patient monitoring.

PenRight! Pro is a software development toolkit to build pen applications, and is designed for use by C programmers. PenRight! utilizes a graphical environment that allows for rapid development of custom applications for virtually all major pen hardware systems on the market. PenRight! also includes a handwriting recognition system for upper and lower case characters, extensive international character support and pen gestures.
