Poqet Sees Accelerated Market Growth through Motorola’s Opening of ARDIS Protocols

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — March 25, 1992 — Poqet Computer Corp. Wednesday said that the opening of the ARDIS network access protocols and formation of Motorola's new Cellular Data Systems group would help accelerate the growth and acceptance of packet data radio as a key enabling technology for wireless communications with portable computers.

"Motorola, through its development and joint ownership of the ARDIS network, is a leader in the field of wireless data communications for remote computing," said Tom Jackson, manager of communications marketing for Poqet.

"It was because of their proven expertise that we chose ARDIS as the first network supported by the Communicating Computer," Poqet's super portable PC with an integral Motorola radio modem for field sales and service automation applications.

"In making the ARDIS network access protocols available to hardware developers, Motorola will speed new product development and systems integration," said Jackson. "At the same time, Motorola's plans to expand network coverage and capacity by working with cellular operators through its Cellular Data Systems group will provide more flexibility and choices for end-users of these systems."
