Puma Technology Provides Electronic Data Migration Path Linking First Generation PDAs to Windows CE PC Companions
SAN JOSE, Calif. — July 14, 1997 — Complimenting its award-winning IntelliSync(TM) software product line, Puma Technology(TM) (NASDAQ:PUMA) announces the first member of its new IntelliMigrate(TM) family of software solutions, IntelliMigrate for Windows CE. IntelliMigrate paves the way for users of first generation electronic organizers and handheld computers to seamlessly transport data from these devices to new generation devices, such as Windows CE handheld PCs. Puma's IntelliMigrate for Windows CE sets free the information trapped in older handheld models, enabling users to conveniently transport all of their existing data into one of the new Windows CE-based PC companions in a matter of minutes. IntelliMigrate currently supports more than 70 existing organizers and handheld PCs from companies including Sharp, Casio, and Hewlett-Packard.
IntelliMigrate for Windows CE is now available through Puma Technology's Web site at www.pumatech.com for $ 39.95. IntelliMigrate for the Sharp SE-500 Mobile Organizer will be bundled by Sharp Electronics, along with Puma's IntelliSync for the Sharp Mobile Organizer. IntelliMigrate for the US Robotics PalmPilot will be available from Puma later this year.
Prior to the advent of IntelliMigrate, older organizers and handheld PCs were the equivalent of sealed "information canisters." If users wished to upgrade to a new handheld device, they would first have to face the tedious, time-consuming and error-prone task of manually inputting all of their contact, calendar and action item information from their older device into their new one. The rapid growth of new generation handhelds has made the task of manual data transfer a major problem for an increasing number of users. With its broad device compatibility and convenient operation, IntelliMigrate eliminates this problem and saves mobile professionals hours of work while ensuring complete data integrity.
"The PC companion market has evolved dramatically over the past few years," said Brad Rowe, president and CEO of Puma Technology. "As with many consumer-oriented electronics products, users are often eager to improve performance and take advantage of the latest technology. As the leader in the Mobile Data Exchange software market, Puma is acutely aware of the challenges that often need to be overcome in the process of adopting new technologies and is continually developing solutions to improve productivity. IntelliMigrate is an excellent example of doing just that since it turns hours of non-productive work into one quick and simple task. This is a real time saver that makes migrating to a new technology that much easier."
Running under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, IntelliMigrate uses the PC as a "go-between" in the information transfer process. The user simply connects the existing handheld device to a desktop or notebook PC. IntelliMigrate then retrieves all its existing data, temporarily storing it in the PC. Once the user is prompted to connect the new device to the PC, IntelliMigrate accurately and efficiently transfers the stored data to the new device in exactly the right format. Hundreds, and even thousands, of contact, calendar and action item records are conveniently and accurately transferred in a matter of minutes.
Puma's IntelliSync synchronization solutions have enhanced virtually all of today's PC companions by enabling data synchronization in a content aware fashion at the record and field levels. With IntelliSync, users of various handheld devices can synchronize significantly more data between their handheld device, desktop computers and a spectrum of disparate database applications such as personal information management (PIM) software and scheduling/contact applications. IntelliSync allows users of PIMs and schedulers including Outlook '97, Schedule+, Lotus Organizer, GoldMine, NetManage ECCO, DayTimer Organizer, Sidekick and other popular applications to automatically synchronize the data between these individual applications and their Windows CE, PalmPilot, HP 200LX or Sharp SE-500 Mobile Organizer handheld device.
IntelliSync overcomes the challenge of interoperability surrounding the sheer number of mobile computing devices, platforms and software programs involved in the equation. Puma is successfully addressing this challenge of synchronization "across the board" with its IntelliSync Mobile Data Exchange(TM) software.
