Sharp Enhances the Mobilon HC-4600 Handheld PC with Inso’s Outside In File-Viewing Technology

BOSTON — July 22, 1998 — Sharp Electronics Corporation and Inso Corporation (Nasdaq: INSO) today announced an agreement under which Sharp has licensed and integrated Inso's Outside In (file-viewing solution with its new Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE-based, Mobilon HC-4600 handheld PC (H/PC). In addition, the file-viewing software will be available to current HC-4500 H/PC users.

Integrated directly with the Mobilon's Microsoft Pocket Outlook(TM) email inbox, Outside In enables users to access, view, and work with a variety of business formats, such as popular word processor, spreadsheet, graphics, and database programs. Mobilon users can now instantly access files from applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access, Corel WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, and Quattro Pro, without requiring the applications themselves — many of which require significant hard disk space and memory resources — to be installed on the H/PC.

"Sharp has continued to refine its Mobilon line to make it simple and seamless to integrate into a corporate network and to fully enable access to corporate data," said Stephen Wain, associate vice president and general manager of Sharp's Corporate Sales Division. "Integration of Inso's Outside In file-viewing technology is an important enhancement that enables users to fully utilize images and text to improve and streamline business practices."

"The integration of Outside In technology with Sharp's Windows CE-based Mobilon further demonstrates Inso's commitment to work with industry leaders to provide businesses with the most advanced information access solutions for crucial business computing platforms," said Steven R. Vana-Paxhia, Inso president and CEO. "We're pleased that Outside In offers the perfect complement to Mobilon by enabling access to critical business data and by improving the productivity of today's greatly expanding number of remote business professionals."

The Sharp Mobilon HC-4600 was developed to be tightly linked to 'core' corporate systems, while increasing the functionality of field applications, such as sales force automation. The HC-4600, a 16 MB color unit, expandable to 32MB of RAM, runs the Microsoft Windows CE 2.0 operating system and was recently named as one of C-Net's Editors' Choice products.

Inso's award-winning Outside In file-viewing and dynamic document exchange technology is integrated into hundreds of applications and operating systems, including Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT(R), and Exchange, Lotus Notes(R), Corel Perfect(R) Office Suite, and search offerings from AltaVista and Fulcrum Technologies. Outside In provides support for more than 200 Windows, UNIX, Mac, and DOS file formats from popular word processor, spreadsheet, graphics, database, and presentation programs.
