Starfish Software Furthers Commitment as Technology Provider to Connected Information Appliance Industry

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. — April 28, 1997 — Subsequent to its alliance with Motorola (NYSE:MOT), Starfish Software today announced a technology agreement with General Magic, Inc. (NASDAQ:GMGC) whereby, Starfish's fully scalable Java-based, client/server technology components will be integrated with General Magic's upcoming network-based communications service, code-named Serengeti. With this technology agreement, Starfish furthers its commitment as a technology provider to the Connected Information Appliance industry.

"Starfish Java-based technology adds value to the General Magic service in two ways," explained Philippe Kahn, chairman and co-founder of Starfish. "First, it gives General Magic a framework for delivering and handling personal information. Second, it will allow interaction with that information from multiple devices, including PalmPilot and Windows CE-based machines."

Starfish software components deliver a framework that enables access to critical business information through a Java-based server and interaction with that information from Connected Information Appliances, such as pagers, cellular phones, handheld devices, PCs, and Network Computers.

"General Magic's goal is to provide mobile workers easy and intuitive access to their critical business information, no matter where they are, using their existing communications devices," said Steve Markman, General Magic chairman, CEO and president. "The technology we're incorporating from Starfish is impressive, and will add great value to the personal information component of our upcoming Serengeti service."

In addition to its development agreement with General Magic, Starfish previously announced an alliance with Motorola's (NYSE:MOT) Platform Software Division whereby Starfish will support Motorola's open software operating environment for the wireless industry.
