Synchrologic Brings Enterprise-Level Data Synchronization to Palm Computing Platform

ATLANTA — September 28, 1998 — Synchrologic, Inc. today announced a version of its SyncKit(tm) data synchronization component for the Palm Computing platform. Developers can use the plug-in SyncKit component to synchronize enterprise databases with applications on Palm Computing devices.

The announcement supports the 3Com(R) strategy of allowing mobile workers to access enterprise-based information from any location using Palm Computing devices. With 63 percent worldwide market share (Dataquest), products based on the Palm Computing platform are the most popular in the handheld computing market.

"Much of our success has been built on the ability to synchronize data between the handheld Palm Computing device and the user's own desktop or laptop PC," said Mark Bercow, vice president, strategic alliances and platform development for Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company. "Synchrologic is an important vendor for Palm Computing. Their enterprise data synchronization components will add a valuable tool for application developers."

According to Synchrologic Founder Sanjoy Malik, "As the leading vendor of client-to-server data synchronization technology, Synchrologic accelerates the development of mobile applications. Enterprise developers can now leverage our robust data synchronization components for both laptop and Palm computing devices."

With SyncKit, application developers can add data synchronization to their applications, enabling users to run the application while not connected to the central server. The version of SyncKit for the Palm Computing platform will support bi-directional synchronization for three configurations: Palm to desktop, Palm to laptop, and Palm directly to enterprise database servers. Application developers can use the native Palm object store or other supported databases for the Palm Computing platform and synchronize to Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, Sybase or Informix enterprise servers.

Using SyncKit, developers can get Palm Computing enterprise applications to market faster and with less effort. Doug MacIntyre, CEO of Firstwave Technologies, a leading provider of innovative customer information systems, says Firstwave plans to use SyncKit to add support for the PalmPilot organizer and other Palm Computing devices.

"SyncKit lets us provide enterprise-level, highly scaleable data synchronization capabilities without overburdening our in-house development staff," said MacIntyre. "With this technology we can expand the market for our new web-application, Netgain Sales, to include companies using Palm Computing devices."

The version of SyncKit for the Palm Computing platform will be available in Q1 1999.
