Telxon Signs License Agreement for CIC’s PenDOS-Lite And PenDOS Handwriter Recognizer
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — March 7, 1994 — Full-featured Mobile Communicators for a Wide Range of Operating Environments. Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) (NASDAQ-NMS: CICI) announced a worldwide license agreement with Telxon Corp. (NASDAQ: TLXN) for CIC's recently announced PenDOS(R)-Lite and PenDOS(R)-Handwriter(R) Recognizer software to operate on Telxon's complete line of pen-based portable computers.
Telxon Corp.'s rugged and powerful handheld computers integrate the point-and-touch simplicity of pen-based technology with the barcode data capture and wireless communication capabilities of a Telxon Portable Tele-Transaction Computer (PTC). The result is an incredibly advanced tool for data collection, information processing and interactive wireless data communications with the ease of the pen. CIC's award-winning Handwriter Recognition software works with PenDOS to complete the picture.
CIC's PenDOS-Lite is specifically designed to permit the easy transformation of existing DOS applications into pencentric applications which can be used on low-powered handheld computers and is suited perfectly to Telxon's pen-based models. With this natural interface, users can fill out forms, select items from a list, and write data directly on the PTC's screen in much the same way as they could write on paper with an ordinary ink pen.
"Combining CIC's PenDOS with our wireless pen-based computers will greatly enhance Telxon's ability to serve the terminal emulation needs of our clients," said Tom Humphries, Telxon's vice president of Product Marketing. He added, "This is especially critical in our target markets of health care, retail and manufacturing where users demand robust recognition of their handwriting and want to take their existing terminal based applications directly to their patient's bedside or onto the retail or factory floor."
"We are excited to work with Telxon, who excels in developing market- specific solutions to wireless mobile data communications devices. Telxon products continue to dovetail perfectly with users' needs in both hardware and software design," said Madeline Duva, CIC director of Business Development. "PenDOS-Lite, the ultra compact version of CIC's industry standard PenDOS, may be customized for the languages of the major world markets including the United States, Western Europe and Japan, allowing Telxon to offer its customers a pen computing solution, worldwide."
