Texas Instruments Introduces Avigo, the Complete Solution for Information Management

DALLAS — September 16, 1997 — Texas Instruments (NYSE:TXN) Tuesday introduced Avigo, the complete solution for information management.

Avigo has one of the most comprehensive collections of useful and user-friendly applications available today. In addition, Avigo is the only solution that comes complete with Lotus Organizer 97, the award-winning software that keeps more than 20 million users organized. Avigo provides solutions for both your PC and your pocket — Lotus Organizer 97 is the leading time management solution for your PC, and Avigo enables you to take information with you wherever you go.

Avigo is the most complete answer to personal information management on the market today. For the first time, the most popular features, including sketch, data tables, addresses and phone numbers, schedules, tasks, expenses, calendar, world time and four calculators — combined with a leading PIM — are available in one product.

Essential information can be viewed on Avigo's large, backlit, easy-to-read display, and can be synchronized between Avigo and PCs using Avigo Manager and IntelliSync for TI Avigo. IntelliSync for TI Avigo was developed specifically for TI by Puma Technology, the leader in Mobile Data Exchange. All the software needed to link PC information to Avigo is included with Avigo, to provide users with a pocketful of information in a truly portable package that can easily be carried in a pocket, purse or briefcase.

"We've combined the applications that users have identified as crucial to their information management needs," said Melissa Stoll, business manager, Texas Instruments. "And with Avigo, we've created the best way for you to manage information at your PC and away."

Ready-to-go Package

Avigo comes complete with everything busy people need to get started right out of the box. The package includes Lotus Organizer 97, the Avigo handheld device, a collapsible docking station that connects to a PC, Avigo Manager, IntelliSync, batteries and even a spare stylus.

Sketch

One of Avigo's many exciting features is a sketch program that provides a snappy way to take quick notes, draw maps, or store BMP files pulled from the Internet. Sketches can be saved and recalled at a later time for use, creating a convenient, reusable notepad.

Data Tables

Download information-rich spreadsheet data such as price lists, forecasts, and part numbers directly from your PC into the organizer, for fast access to important information anywhere you go.

Innovative Data Entry

Avigo provides users with three different methods of data entry, none of which require users to learn a new way of writing. T9 is an innovative text input system from Tegic Communications that combines intelligent software with a keyboard for quick data entry. Users can also bring up a traditional style keyboard on the screen or use the stylus to input or edit information.

Calculator

Avigo provides four calculators to meet a wide range of professional needs. Included are financial, cost-sell-margin, date, and standard calculators.

Date and Time

Avigo has the capability to display the correct time in multiple time zones. It also automatically corrects for daylight savings time, to help you be even more efficient.

Expense Management

Avigo makes keeping track of expenses a breeze with its expense management program. Business travelers will appreciate the simple input system that allows hotel, telephone and meal costs to be recorded instantly for expense reports.

Easy-to-Read Screen

Information can be displayed on Avigo's innovative screen either vertically or horizontally. Horizontal viewing is ideal for tabular and "timeline" information, while other information is easier to read vertically. In addition, at a full 160 by 240 pixels, Avigo's screen is larger than most competitive products.

Calendars

Manage multiple schedules, such as work, personal and school, in an easy-to-read graphic timeline format. Daily and weekly views make it easy to get the most out of your busy day. Time slots are blocked out for easy identification, and supported by text descriptions.

Information Management and Data Synchronization

Memos and data-rich files are easily downloaded and called up quickly on Avigo's screen. New information can be input and synchronized when back at the office or at home using the software included with the Avigo. This feature ensures that the information matches and is the most up-to-date on both Avigo and the PC. Also, Puma sells an optional upgrade package that provides support for additional PIMs.

Durability

Avigo's sleek design stands up to the daily demands of portability. Its flip-top lid protects the touch screen from scratches while in a pocket or purse.

Memory

Texas Instrument's Avigo has one megabyte of flash memory that stores information even when the power is off or batteries run low. Approximately 680KB are available for storage.

System Requirements

Avigo requires an IBM-compatible (486), Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, 8 megabytes of Ram or greater (12 recommended), 49 megabytes available hard disk space, CD-ROM drive, available serial port, and a VGA monitor or better.

Availability

Texas Instrument's Avigo will be available in October at office, electronics and computer superstores nationwide as well as in PC direct catalogs for an estimated street price of $ 299.
