TwinBridge to Distribute Motorola’s WisdomPen; Award-Winning System Enables Natural Chinese Input

LOS ANGELES — February 20, 1997 — Motorola, Lexicus Division (NYSE:MOT) announced today that its award-winning Chinese Handwriting Recognition System will be available throughout the United States and Canada.

The product, named WisdomPen(TM) ("Huibi" in Chinese) system, will be distributed exclusively by TwinBridge Software Corp. in the United States and Canada. TwinBridge is also an authorized distributor in Europe and Japan.

TwinBridge Software Corp. designs and markets software for insertion of Asian languages in Windows applications. Based in Southern California, TwinBridge has over 200 established distribution channels throughout the United States and Canada.

Computers that run under English Microsoft Windows need to be "double-byte" enabled in order to display Chinese and Japanese fonts. TwinBridge Chinese Partner enables PCs running under English Windows to display the Chinese characters that are created by Motorola's WisdomPen Chinese Handwriting Recognition System.

"As developers of multi-lingual software, we are dedicated to developing solutions for the language computing issues around the world," said Edward L. Chang, president and CEO of TwinBridge. "We regard this initial joint marketing effort as the beginning of a long term relationship."

"Motorola and TwinBridge are committed to provide the best solution to the Chinese communities around the world," said Dr. Ronjon Nag, general manager of Motorola, Lexicus Division. "We are certainly pleased that TwinBridge has chosen to distribute Motorola's PC input system in the U.S. and Canada."

The WisdomPen System

The WisdomPen Chinese Handwriting Recognition System includes highly accurate Chinese handwriting recognition software that is uniquely able to recognize connected stroke, or "cursive" characters. The WisdomPen software is easy to use for both students and proficient writers since there is no learning curve and no required style of writing.

Chinese writers can input Chinese characters into a computer in their natural handwriting. Running under Windows 95 or Windows 3.1, the recognizer has 5 dictionaries, which together contain over 20,000 simplified and traditional characters as well as characters that are unique to Hong Kong.

How It Works

The WisdomPen System includes a Motorola digitizing tablet and electronic pen. The 7" by 6-3/4" tablet plugs into the serial port of any PC. The WisdomPen system is compatible with popular Windows applications making the creation of Chinese language faxes, business letters, invitations and web sites on a computer both fast and easy.

System Requirements

The WisdomPen System runs under both Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 operating systems. The minimum system requirements for users of Windows 95 is a 486DX4/100 PC (recommended Pentium 75 or better) with 8MB RAM (16 recommended) and 20MB hard drive space. The minimum system requirements for users of Windows 3.1 is a 486DX2/66 PC with 4MB RAM and 10MB hard drive space.
