U.S. Robotics and GoAmerica Launch Nationwide Wireless Internet/Intranet Service, with the Allpoints Wireless PC Card

HACKENSACK, N.J. — March 18, 1997 — U.S. Robotics Mobile Communications Corp., the leading PC Card manufacturer, and GoAmerica Communications Corp., a Nationwide Wireless Internet Service Provider, today announced the launch of a service to give users seamless wireless access to the World Wide Web using Windows 95(TM) and Windows CE(TM) devices. In conjunction with the launch of the service, GoAmerica is partnering with U.S. Robotics in offering a free two week trial period to users who purchase the AllPoints(TM) Wireless PC Card. U.S. Robotics will be utilizing the GoAmerica Service Center which runs a fully integrated application called AirBrowse(TM). AirBrowse which is part of the AirBoss(TM) suite of software developed by Bellcore, allows users to run standard Web Browsers such as Netscape, or Microsoft Explorer versions 3.0 and access the Internet and corporate Intranets when the user is mobile.

The introduction of this service gives mobile computer users wireless access to corporate Intranets and the Internet, thus solving the connectivity issue for many corporations wanting their mobile work force to have continuous access to mission critical corporate data. "We are excited about this new program since the combination of the AllPoints Wireless PC Card and the GoAmerica Service Center has all the elements needed for wireless communications — a reliable network, a state of the art device and an application and service that allows the mobile user plug and play access to vital information," said Robert Bauer, Vice President of Marketing, U.S. Robotics Mobile Communications Corp.

The two week trial is free of charge, and will allow users to evaluate The Wireless Internet / Intranet service. At the end of the trial, users will have the opportunity to continue The GoAmerica Service and sign up for the service plan(s) that best suit their needs.

The AllPoints Wireless PC Card transmits data over the RAM Mobile Data network, which is a nationwide wireless packet data network. The AllPoints Wireless PC Card is a Type II PC Card and works with most laptop computers, Palmtops, PDAs and Windows CE devices. The estimated selling price of the AllPoints Wireless PC Card is $499.

The GoAmerica service has been available nationally since November 1996. The GoAmerica service plans, starting at $14.95 per month allow users to access their corporate Intranets or the Internet while they are out of the office. GoAmerica offers nationwide wireless Intranet and Internet service on Windows(TM) based platforms via a variety of data networks.

"The GoAmerica service in connection with the AllPoints Wireless(TM) PC Card is the first service to provide all the elements needed by the mobile work force," said Aaron Dobrinsky, President of GoAmerica Communications — "We are excited about the partnership with U.S. Robotics. With our service and the AllPoints you only pay for the transmitted information, not connection time, thus making constant connection affordable. In addition there are no roaming fees so you pay the same price whether you are traveling locally or across the country."
