U.S. ROBOTICS: Stand By for Pilot Accessories
December 9, 1996 — A new set of accompanying products are now available for U.S. Robotics pilot personal organiser, including a remote connectivity Option. Additional equipment for pilot will comprise of 1 MB memory upgrade, HotSync cable, leather carrying case, replacement stylus three pack. pilot cradle as well as a modem cable which will work with pocket modems or external modems to enable pilot users to synchronise data remotely.
The 1MB upgrade is simple to install and replaces the memory, card of the pilot. while the HotSync cable is a neat and practical way of connecting pilot directly to a notebook computer, so you can back-up and synchronise 'on the road'. Additional desktop cradles are also available for those who may wish to keep one both at home and at work.
European marketing manager for U.S. Robotics Palm Computing Division, Anne-Marie Bourcier commented: "The new accessories will certainly, widen the appeal of pilot, offering the user even more features such as connectivity with its modem functionality and increased processing capacity with memory upgrades. At the same time, there is now an abundance of third party software being developed for pilot which makes it compatible with all the popular PIM (Personal Information Management) packages currently used by business executives."
Pilot is a shirt pocket-sized connected organiser, weighing less than six ounces, which enables users to manage information both when away from the office and on their desktop PC. Unlike other palmtop devices or PDAs it allows you to automatically synchronise information between PC and pilot by pressing a single button.
Pilot features U.S. Robotics' Graffiti power writing software. Graffiti's ease of use and functionality have made it a de facto standard in the palm computing market. Enabling users to enter data at up to 30 words per minute with 100% accuracy, Graffiti is the most robust, complete way to enter text into handheld devices.
While pilot ships with a complete suite of PIM applications, the Palm OS (Operating System) also offers compatibility with existing PIM software to accommodate users' existing PIM applications and data. Optional links developed by third parties are available with popular desktop organisers such as; Lotus Organiser, Schedule+, Now Up-to-Date, Sidekick and others.
