Vadem Announces New President, CEO
SAN JOSE, Calif. — February 18, 1997 — Vadem announced today that John H. Zhao, formerly Vice President of the Telephony Products Group for U.S. Robotics (Nasdaq: USRX), has joined the company as President and CEO, effective immediately. Chikok Shing, who formerly held those titles, will remain as Chairman.
While Vadem will continue developing highly-integrated components and power management technology for handheld applications, the business for which it is best known, it will also build on this experience to develop system-level products, establishing itself as a timely enabler of groundbreaking information appliances based on integrated operating systems such as Microsoft's* Windows CE*.
"John brings a wealth of expertise in building and managing information and telecommunications product companies that is crucial to the future of Vadem," said Mr. Shing. "We're delighted to have him on board."

At U.S. Robotics, Mr. Zhao was responsible for establishing U.S. Robotics' entry into the telephony business and growing the Telephony Products Group to a leading position in the audio teleconferencing industry in less than two years. Prior to joining U.S. Robotics, Mr. Zhao held various executive positions at Shure Brothers, Inc., a leading manufacturer in the professional audio and teleconferencing industries. Earlier in his career, Mr. Zhao was a technologist in the digital signal processing and telecommunications fields serving companies such as AT&T Bell Labs and Darome.
Mr. Zhao earned his MBA degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He also holds master's degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from Northern Illinois University.
As Chairman, Mr. Shing will focus on strategic alliances and on proliferating Windows CE-related technologies such as those developed by Microsoft and Vadem.
