Wireless Telecom Signs Additional Agreements with Leading Hardware and Software Vendors and Service Providers
AURORA, Colo. — December 5, 1994 — Wireless Telecom Inc. (WTI), a distributor of wireless data communications products and services, Monday announced it has signed additional agreements with leading hardware and software vendors and service providers in the wireless data market to immediately provide these companies' hardware and software products to qualified value-added resellers.
Under the terms of these agreements, WTI adds to its growing list of industry partnerships by offering the following: Apple Computer's mobile products, MobileWare's MobileWare software, Nettech's wireless software applications and developers' tools, Motorola Paging Products Group's advanced information receivers, Motorola Personal Communicator Systems & Software Division's data communications software, SkyTel's wireless products and services and Spectrum Cellular Corp.'s cellular data interface.
WTI has also been selected to provide second tier technical support and product fulfillment for AirTouch Cellular's wireless data customers in San Diego.
"Wireless Telecom is very excited about the opportunity to work with these business partners to provide our value-added resellers with additional wireless data products and services," said Rob Balgley, vice president of sales and marketing, Wireless Telecom. "These agreements are a further indication of the critical mass being created both by WTI and the wireless industry at large."
These vendors join an extensive list of wireless and mobile hardware and software manufacturers working with WTI, including Compaq, Hewlett Packard, IBM, BellSouth Cellular, RadioMail, RAM and Ardis.
The new agreements will enable WTI to offer resellers the following:
— Apple Computers Inc.'s line of mobile products, including PowerBook, Newton MessagePad 100 and MessagePad 110 and their accessories, such as Newton Messaging Card access to Apple Wireless Messaging.
— MobileWare Corp.'s MobileWare Version 1.1 client/server system software for mobile networking provides access to network files, allowing users to transfer files between notebook and servers on a network; fast faxing, allowing users to send faxes to multiple people quickly and cost-effectively; easy access to electronic mail, allowing users to "mobilize" the LAN version of Lotus cc:Mail; and remote printing, allowing users to print proposals and presentations back at the office for hard copy distribution.
— Motorola Paging Products Group's Personal Communicator Systems & Software Division's NewsStream and NewsCard Wireless Data Receivers. The Wireless Data Receivers provide "Information On The Move" to users of portable computers, PDAs or other personal communications devices.
NewsStream and NewsCard function as receive modems which capture wireless information, such as messages, electronic mail, stock quotes, news updates and data files, that are sent over existing local, regional or national paging systems, or new one-way wireless advanced messaging and data networks.
Many service providers provide connectivity from the Internet, which allows NewsStream and NewsCard to function as Wireless Internet Receivers. NewsStream and NewsCard are completely functional whether inside or out of the host computer and do not utilize power from the host. Once connected, messages can then be viewed on the computer or downloaded.
NewsStream is designed for RS-232-compatible devices and interfaces via cable or cradle; NewsCard is compatible with devices having a PCMCIA Type II connectivity slot.
— Motorola Paging Products Group's Personal Communicator Systems & Software Division's Site Connect software, a powerful data communications capability to meet the needs of mobile professionals. Motorola's Site Connect software offers corporations a seamless way to connect electronic messaging, computer monitoring and computer telephony applications to alphanumeric paging technology.
Regardless of whether users have their own on-site paging system or subscribe to a regional or nationwide commercial paging carrier, Site Connect will allow users to have a direct and easy connection to both.
The coupling of "wired" and wireless technologies provides significant benefits to end-users in numerous environments: automated dispatch, facilities/maintenance, healthcare, manufacturing, MIS (management of information systems), office (e-mail, calendaring/scheduling) and security.
— Nettech Systems' advanced wireless development tools, communications servers and mobile applications. Nettech's InstantRF Workbench software tools allow developers to quickly enable dispatch, database and email applications for wireless communications.
Nettech's RFexpress enables users to run their Novell Netware MHS-compatible applications over current wireless data networks without modification. Nettech's RFdispatch enables immediate two-way communications between the dispatch office and a company's field service engineers. Designed from the outset for wireless communications, Nettech software supports all the leading wireless networks.
— SkyTel Corp.'s wireless products and services, beginning with the SkyCard, a PCMCIA-based wireless receiver card that helps users integrate incoming information with documents, forms and applications on their portable computer. SkyTel's nationwide and regional paging communications services can be sold through the WTI reseller channel. SkyTel is the first one-way wireless service provider to be represented by WTI.
— Spectrum Cellular Corp.'s AXCELL, a small, portable, intelligent cellular data interface that provides end-users with mobile connectivity and access to data through the cellular telephone network. AXCELL allows the transmission and reception of data over the cellular network from a portable fax machine, computer/modem or any RJ-11-compatible device.
Carrier Support
In a related area, WTI has been selected to handle technical support and product fulfillment for AirTouch Cellular Data Group's cellular data launch in San Diego, AirTouch Cellular's lead market for its launch of cellular data services. Through AirTouch Cellular's network, San Diego-based subscribers can send and receive messages, send faxes, access databases and download files remotely.
To practically access the network, subscribers will need cellular-enhanced equipment such as a laptop computer, cellular-enhanced modem, cellular phone and a cable. WTI will provide advice and consult on the hardware and software.
