History

The WATCOM C/386 User's Guide for PenPoint is a developer manual for the WATCOM C/386 compiler running under GO Corporation's PenPoint operating system.1 GO had first unveiled PenPoint to the developer community in January 1991, and on April 16, 1992 it shipped the commercial release of the operating system together with the PenPoint Software Development Kit, which included an executable copy of PenPoint along with tools and documentation intended to make developers quickly productive.2

GO identified the WATCOM C/386 32-bit C compiler as the tool developers could use to build PenPoint applications.2 To begin, a developer needed the PenPoint Software Development Kit, an 80386- or 80486-compatible PC running DOS, and a digitizer tablet to emulate a pen computer.2

Watcom issued its PenPoint C documentation as a set, and this User's Guide was accompanied by a companion WATCOM C Library Reference for PenPoint.3 Watcom's involvement with PenPoint extended beyond development tools: at the April 16, 1992 launch the company also announced WATCOM SQL for PenPoint, an SQL database engine for GO Corporation's operating system.4
