Since publication of our last issue, several organizations have formed to support pen-based computing.
The SPA SIG
The Software Publishers Association (SPA) has formed a pen-based special interest group (SIG), which met for the first time at the SPA Spring Conference held in San Francisco last March. According to an SPA press release, the pen-based SIG already has over thirty-five members representing some thirty companies. The group plans to publish a resource directory and is putting together projects to explore topics such as pen-based standards, handwriting recognition, and research and literature reviews.
The SPA pen-based SIG will convene at Spring Comdex in Atlanta on May 22 at 3:30 PM in the French Room of the Westin Peachtree. For more information, contact the SPA at 202-452-1600 (Fax: 202-223-8756).
The Boston Computer Society
The Boston Computer Society has established the Pen Interface Group which held its first meeting in early April. The group is headed by Benjamin Bloch. For more information, contact the BCS at 617-367-8080.
Pen-PC Report
Portia Isaacson of Future Computing fame has established a new “pen-based computing resource for suppliers, end-users, and resellers” called Pen-PC Report. The report contains executive summaries of the state of the market, trends, forecasts, directories of hardware and software products, company profiles, PR firms, and so forth. The price of Pen-PC Report is $1295, which includes 320 pages, database diskettes, 30 full-page chart duplication masters, and 30 color slides.
