Network-to-pager messaging software that enables wireless communication between networked PCs and alpha-numeric pagers has been announced by Fourth Wave Technologies. The system, called WinBeep, lets you send text messages to alpha-numeric pages from any network PC that runs Microsoft Windows (and before long DOS) and shares standard PC modems. Pagers can typically hold as much as 6 Kbytes of data.

WinBeep supports the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) with Microsoft Mail and Vendor Independent Messaging (VIM) with Lotus cc:Mail. Support for Novell’s Message Handling Service (MHS) will come later this year.

Upon request, Fourth Wave will provide a free software development kit (SDK) with the application programming interfaces (API) necessary to pager-enable Windows-based applications. Contact:
