MiniStor Peripherals International Limited—Disk drive manufacturer MiniStor Peripherals announced on June 29, 1994 that it has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an IPO of 1,350,000 Units.

Each Unit, priced at an estimated $14 to $16, consists of two shares of Common Stock and one Redeemable Common Stock Purchase Warrant.

Air Communications—The goal of integrated voice, fax, and data came one step closer with the introduction of the AirCommunicator for Windows-based notebook computers.

The device can send and receive faxes, email, and data at rates up to 57.6 Kbps using Air Communications’ proprietary AirSpeed technology.

MicroTouch Systems, Inc.—In a strategy to broaden its range of input technologies, Methuen, Massachusetts-based MicroTouch announced that it has signed a letter of intent to purchase the assets of Visage, Inc.

Visage introduced a touch input product last year known as the TouchMate.

Peripheral Vision Limited—United Kingdom-based Peripheral Vision announced that its PenOp software now supports several critical environments including Microsoft Windows 3.1, Windows for Pen Computing 1.0, IBM’s OS/2 v2.1, and PenPS/2 v1.0.

PenOps is a set of software components that perform handwritten signature verification enabling new classes of signature-dependent business applications to be deployed.

McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc.—Despite early setbacks from a very optimistic rollout plan, McCaw Cellular recently held demonstrations highlighting the compatibility and interoperability between CDPD products from several vendors.

Participants in the demonstrations included Cincinnati Microwave, Pacific Communication Services Inc. (PCSI), Retix, Sierra Wireless, and Steinbrecher.

Kantek Inc./Spectrum—While dubbed the 3-D Wireless RINGMOUSE, Kantek’s new infrared and ultrasonic input device bears little relation to the common desktop rodent. Unveiled at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, the device tracks finger movements in front of the monitor.

Working in three-dimensions, the RINGMOUSE transmits the x, y, and z coordinates representing the left/right, up/down, and forward/backward motion of the user’s finger.

Acecad, Inc.—For those that found the current pen shipping with the ACECAT II digitizer a bit too heavy, Monterey, California-based ACECAD now features a new FEATHERLight Pen that will ship with all new units.

The ACECAT II is a 5 x 5″ graphics tablet that supports Microsoft Windows and uses a tethered pen for input. The price for the tablet remains $129.

Wynd Communications Corp.—For mobile executives who just can’t seem to get enough, select Dow Jones news services may only be a wireless message away. Dow Jones Business Information Services has teamed with Wynd Communications to deliver the Dow Jones Business Daily, along with the Dow Jones Industrial Average once a day.

As an additional service, users can elect to receive news on companies, market activity, sports, and other information through the Dow Jones Business Daily. In each case, the information is delivered to the subscriber as a wireless email message through the WyndMail service using the nationwide RAM Mobile Data network.
