Stylus computing and wireless communication is a compelling mix. Recently, two California-based corporations, Solectek Corp. and Kalidor, strengthened this notion by announcing a strategic partnership that will pair the best technologies that each has to offer.

Solectek is the developer of the innovative wireless campus area network, AIRLAN CAN, which enables mobile computer users to roam through a campus environment while maintaining a data connection. As a result of the partnership, Solectek’s AIRLAN wireless adapters will be installed and sealed in Kalidor’s K2000 line of ruggedized, stylus-based personal computers.

The partnership also includes a new sales program that will assist system integrators and VARs in offering the new product combination. The two companies will also team to promote sales training, advertising, and end-user oriented seminars.

Kalidor’s K2000 computers, which include the 486-based K2100 and the 386-based K2000, are designed for unfriendly environments that may include: water, salt, and dust. Kalidor and Solectek feel that sealing the AIRLAN wireless adapter inside the unit increases its usefulness while maintaining its rugged characteristics.

Kalidor has already received the FCC approval necessary to sell the computers with the AIRLAN/PCMCIA installed. The sealed pen computers will be available from both Kalidor and Solectek VARs and integrators.
