ISDN Comes to PC Card Format

ConnectWare Releases PhoneWorks ISDN+ To Go!

Widely deployed in both Europe and parts of Asia (most notably Japan), ISDN has arguably failed to reach the same heights in North America. Still, the market is large enough to entice Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based Connectware, Inc. to recently unveil PhoneWorks ISDN, a hardware and software combination that includes support for mobile users.

As one of the six available configurations, PhoneWorks ISDN+ To Go! features 128Kbps ML-PPP channel aggregation, V.34 modem and V.17 fax emulation, and interfacing capability to POTS [Plain Old Telephone Service]. The data and fax emulation permits the system to be used in a traditional non-ISDN analog manner.

On the ISDN side, the system provides 64Kbps data and digital voice transmission. Included with the card is an enhanced Windows-based dialer and directory that enables mobile workers to better coordinate the voice and data dial up capabilities of ISDN. The system also includes a high-quality headset and boom mike to take advantage of the digital voice quality offered with ISDN. The PC Card is available for US $389.

Connectware also recently introduced PhoneWorks 28.8 To Go!, another PC Card-based solution that brings together a high-speed modem with voice mail and fax capabilities. Users can take advantage of the system’s telephony options using a hands-free phone. PhoneWorks 28.8 To Go! works with Microsoft DOS 3.3 or higher, Windows 3.1+, and Windows 95. The card is available now for US $329.
