A well-connected mobile professional today cannot afford to rely on only one or two types of communication systems. To be truly connected nowadays means having access to wireless paging, alphanumeric paging, wireless messaging, cellular voice and fax, along with traditional wired data access.
Even though all of these features are now available using small and rugged PC Card technology, carrying, configuring, and using multiple PC Cards is still something best avoided where possible. For communication hungry mobile workers, a new product from NovaLink Technologies now makes this easy.
Dubbed the NovaPak 288, the Type II PC Card incorporates a 28.8 Kbps cellular modem that is capable of transmitting and receiving data, fax, and voice communication. In addition, the card includes a standard alphanumeric pager, all on a single PC Card.
Using the NovaPak 288, people can send and receive faxes through traditional or cellular telephone circuits. Incoming messages, including fax, data, and voice are answered and stored using multiple mailboxes. The NovaPak 288 also enables you to record outgoing messages and perform remote message retrieval.
The modem in the NovaPak 288 incorporates V.42 LAPM and MNP 2-4 error correction, V.42bis and MNP 5 data compression, and MNP 10 enhanced cellular data throughput. An LCD window displays the incoming email and alphanumeric messages which can then be downloaded to a Windows notebook computer using the supplied software.
The NovaPak 288 is available at a suggested list price of $599.
