McCaw Teams to Provide AirData Solutions

Well aware of the nature of any nascent technology-based industry—pen computing and wireless data included—the Wireless Data Division of McCaw Cellular Communication announced that they are forming a series of channel partner programs and distribution strategies for McCaw’s cellular digital packet data (CDPD) wireless network.

The program, dubbed the AirData Solutions Program, is a response to customer requests that have identified the benefits of bringing VARs and system integrators in early to build complete application solutions. In making the announcement at COMDEX, McCaw also introduced several channel partners that will help in building customer-directed CDPD solutions.

One example is Chicago-based Lante Corp. which has developed a CDPD-compatible adaptation of applications running under Lotus Notes. Lante focuses on implementing client-server solutions and, through the new CDPD-compatible product, will enable mobile workers to gain real-time, wireless access to LAN-based electronic documents.

Other partners include Perot Systems Corporation and SEI Information Technology. Perot Systems plans to concentrate its efforts on creating wireless applications for banking, finance, health and energy. SEI, on the other hand, was demonstrating its EnRoute vehicle tracking system at the McCaw booth at COMDEX.

Rounding out the initial list of AirData Solutions Program partners are ACT, Inc., Active Voice, Aspect Technologies, General Programming, Inc., Mobile Computing Solutions, Remote Data Systems, the Software Company of America, and Symbol Technologies.
