History

PenPointers was the software developer newsletter published by GO Corporation for the community writing applications on its PenPoint operating system, and the June 1993 issue carried the masthead line "Information for PenPoint Developers."1

The issue opened with a "GO Communication Products Update" reviewing the status of GO's communications software for the EO Personal Communicator and related products including GO Fax and MSG Link.1 EO Inc. had begun shipping the EO Personal Communicator in volume that April, and the device was due to reach AT&T Phone Center stores beginning in June 1993.2

Later pages turned to products from GO's third-party developers: PenMagic Software of North Vancouver, British Columbia announced that its Numero product had shipped at version 2.0; Sharpened Software introduced a set of developer tools; and Slate Corporation of Scottsdale, Arizona promoted a special offer on its PenApps software.1 The same pages described the aBase Engine product from H2 Software of Sausalito, California and an update to GO's PenPoint Catalog of Products and Services, and the issue closed with a developer classifieds section.1

GO Corporation, a privately held company based in Foster City, California, was the developer of PenPoint, the operating system at the center of the emerging personal-communicator platform; two months after this issue appeared, GO and EO Inc. announced in August 1993 that they would merge to become AT&T's personal-communicator company.3
