History

Young Ideas Software Design Services was a Sausalito, California consultancy that developed pen-computer applications, operating from offices at 207 Second Street in Sausalito.1 Its services brochure presented the firm's work under the heading of pen-based computing, offering application development, form design, training, consulting, and documentation.1

Young Ideas described its approach as applying new interface-design techniques to existing paper forms, reworking them into applications built around the pen computer.1 The firm's experience spanned environments from X Windows OpenLook and Motif to GO Corporation's PenPoint, and included a year of work in Slate's PenApps.1 Its brochure listed IBM, GO, and Slate among its customers.1

The consultancy's principal, Catherine Young, authored The Rogue PenApps Workbook, a self-training guide for PenApps for PenPoint built around PenAppsDBMS and xBase.2 Published by Young Ideas Software Design Services in 1993, the workbook sold for thirty dollars and shipped with a 3.5-inch floppy disk containing its database and TIFF images.2
